THE Health Promotion Board (HPB) has stopped all forms of
physical activities under its programmes islandwide for the time
being to review the safety measures and safety precautions.
This comes close on the heels of the sudden death of a
contestant in the HPB Lose to Win Challenge last Saturday.
A check at some malls showed that even mall walking, touted by
the board to be one of the safest forms of physical activity, has
also been halted temporarily.
HPB spokesman told The Straits Times it is currently reviewing
safety precautions of all forms of activities under its
umbrella.
'As part of our practice, following any incident, HPB will
thoroughly review all safety precautions. We will advise when the
results of the review are complete,' she added.
The review comes in the wake of the sudden death of Mr Ong Joo
Aun, 54, a human resource executive and father of two. Mr Ong
collapsed shortly after a 2km brisk walking session at Yishun
Stadium, part of the HPB weight-loss challenge Lose to Win last
Saturday.
